Obama Blinks on Vouchers

CANDIDATE Obama was sorta low-key about school vouchers, and you could see why. School vouchers are opposed by the No.1 special interest of the Democratic Party: teachers.
Still, you’d think that in the District of Columbia, a majority African-American city, where the public school system is a national scandal, he might want to buck his supporters and let children get an education by climbing out of the train wreck.
According to Mickey Kaus, the Obama administration just blinked. Even though it is opposed to vouchers, it’s willing to make an exception in the case of Washington, DC.
Education Secretary Arne Duncan said Wednesday that poor children getting vouchers to attend private schools in the District of Columbia should be allowed to stay there, putting the Obama administration at odds with Democrats trying to end the program.
Duncan opposes vouchers, he said in an interview with The Associated Press. But he said Washington is a special case, and kids already in private schools on the public dime should be allowed to continue.
Children already getting vouchers can continue to enjoy them. But notice what is not said. Good luck to anyone wanting a voucher next year, if they aren’t already enrolled in the program.
This is why we needed an Obama administration. You only get to see peoples’ cruelty and hypocrisy when they have the power and the opportunity to exercise it.
The welfare state is cruel, corrupt, wasteful, unjust, and deluded.
