| Islamists Don't Do Patents | Telling the Story of America's Economic Success |

IF YOU WERE national Democratic politician and a bribed apologist for the teachers’ unions, what would be an easy way to take a cheap shot at school choice in the post 9/11 world?
Well, of course, you’d raise fears that if parents had the right to send their children to the school of their choice, pretty soon people would be spending taxpayers’ money on Jihad Academies.
That’s the argument that Senator Hillary Clinton was making in the Bronx the other day, according to Glenn Thrush, as she spoke to the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corp.
"First family that comes and says 'I want to send my daughter to St. Peter's Roman Catholic School' and you say 'Great, wonderful school, here's your voucher,'" Clinton said. "Next parent that comes and says, 'I want to send my child to the school of the Church of the White Supremacist ...' The parent says, 'The way that I read Genesis, Cain was marked, therefore I believe in white supremacy. ... You gave it to a Catholic parent, you gave it to a Jewish parent, under the Constitution, you can't discriminate against me.'"
As an adoring, if somewhat puzzled, audience of Bronx activists looked on, Clinton added, "So what if the next parent comes and says, 'I want to send my child to the School of the Jihad? ... I won't stand for it."
I see. So, on the off chance that some whacko jihadist parent might turn up and create division and discord we have to keep the rest of American kids imprisoned in the schools coincidentally run by the political supporters of Hillary Clinton.
The truth is it is one-size-fits-all government school systems that create division and discord and not the other way around.
The elitist “common school” movement in the 19th century that created our current school system was deliberately trying to purge the schools of their Puritan culture, and pretty soon they were using their power to try to cure the Irish Catholics of their Catholicism. By the end of the 19th century the schools were ramming a bland Christianity down the throats of Eastern European Jews.
It didn’t work. The Catholics got their revenge by creating their own system of schools. The Jews got their revenge by purging the schools of all religion.
Now, of course, you can’t talk about religion at all in the government schools. Except the religion of positive self-esteem. That just happens to be the religion of Hillary Clinton and the teachers union activists.
We school-choice proponents are in this for the long haul, Senator Clinton. We think that ordinary Americans should have the same right that you enjoyed when you sent your daughter to Sidwell Friends School in Washington DC. We believe that all Americans should have the right to educate their children at the school of their choice.
And for politicians like you, who stand in the school house door like the segregationists of 50 years ago, we have nothing but contempt.

[W]hen I asked a liberal longtime editor I know with a mainstream [publishing] house for a candid, shorthand version of the assumptions she and her colleagues make about conservatives, she didn't hesitate. Racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-choice fascists, she offered, smiling but meaning it.

[T]he way “to achieve a system of determining admission to the public schools on a nonracial basis,”
Brown II, 349 U. S., at 300–301, is to stop assigning students on a racial basis. The way to stop
discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.

[T]he Liberal, and still more the subspecies Radical... more than any other in these latter days seems under the impression that so long as he has a good end in view he is warranted in exercising over men all the coercion he is able[.]

[In the] higher Christian churches… they saunter through the liturgy like Mohawks along a string of scaffolding who have long since forgotten their danger. If God were to blast such a service to bits, the congregation would be, I believe, genuinely shocked. But in the low churches you expect it every minute.
Annie Dillard, Holy the Firm
[Every] sacrifice is an act of impurity that pays for a prior act of greater impurity... without its participants having to suffer the full consequences incurred by its predecessor. The punishment is commuted in a process that strangely combines and finesses the deep contradiction between justice and mercy.

Within Pentecostalism the injurious hierarchies of the wider world are abrogated and replaced by a single hierarchy of faith, grace, and the empowerments of the spirit... where groups gather on rafts to take them through the turbulence of the great journey from extensive rural networks to the mega-city and the nuclear family...

What distinguishes true Conservatism from the rest, and from the Blair project, is the belief in more personal freedom and more market freedom, along with less state intervention... The true Third Way is the Holy Grail of Tory politics today - compassion and community without compulsion.

These emerge out of long-standing moral notions of freedom, benevolence, and the affirmation of ordinary life... I have been sketching a schematic map... [of] the moral sources [of these notions]... the original theistic grounding for these standards... a naturalism of disengaged reason, which in our day takes scientistic forms, and a third family of views which finds its sources in Romantic expressivism, or in one of the modernist successor visions.

There was nothing new about the Frankish drive to the east... [let] us recall that the continuance of their rule depended upon regular, successful, predatory warfare.

The Union publishes an exact return of the amount of its taxes; I can get copies of the budgets of the four and twenty component states; but who can tell me what the citizens spend in the administration of county and township?

The primary thing to keep in mind about German and Russian thought since
1800 is that it takes for granted that the Cartesian, Lockean or Humean scientific and
philosophical conception of man and nature... has been shown by indisputable evidence to be
inadequate.
